A
moment of relaxing

satuNGUYEN
THE LAM iVietnam) |
After
walking for long on the sand,a woman and her son stop for a moment
of relaxing . Water is the only source for their energy recovering.
Juror's Review
Off to work, a parent and a child rest for a moment in the desert.
The oppressive heat is beautifully conveyed in this photo by the
intense yellow of the sand. The photographer was right to aim for
a backlit feel. The shine on the bottle is also effective. The child's
face is so expressive - "I'm thirsty!" Good light, good
camera angle and great timing make this an excellent work..(Sasaki

The picture was taken in LyNhon,Can Gio district (the suburb of
Hochiminh City). The residents here live almost separately nearby
a big city.Against the rapid process of urbanization,we hope that
this rural area will keep its original attraction forever.
Juror's Review
environmental conditions, but this photo portrays beautifully the
dynamic atmosphere of wind and light in which we live. The swelling
of the wind before a storm, the ray of sunlight that beams down
from between the clouds. Memories of lazy summer days, and the feeling
of oneness with nature that we will never forget. If people can
still capture that feeling, the earth will be all right in the end.
Perhaps we should put an end to dark negativity and get ready to
believe in a bright and shining future..(Oguro Kazumi)

Smoke
Harms Human Life

satuNGUYEN MINH HOANG (Vienam) |
According to government warnings "smoking damages your health"
This little children pick wastes up while factories discharge wastes
into the dump. They make themselves a living in the a bad. .
Juror's Review
The health of our planet-and our bodies-is at risk. Cigarettes to
mi symbolize the wasting of both. Huge tracts of agricultural land
are used for tobacco rather than making food to be eaten locally.
Massive pesticide and chemical input drains the earth, and then
our bodies.
Governments turn a blind eye take the tax money.
This image of young boys sifting through factory waste to find a
few saleable butts is a visually effective commentary on the sad
state of the global economy ,in which children are forced to struggle
for a living off the leftovers and refuse of big industry, in this
case one based on a carcinogenic addiction. The power of the image
itself comes from the pure white harmless quality of the cigarette
papers, reminiscent of confetti or snow, and the stature and appearance
of the boys, industrious workers in the uniform of poverty. We need
more images like the one to show the world as it is-and to help
us find solutions to poverty and environmental problems. Thanks
to Earth Vision for giving us the opportunity to address these serious
issues. (Safia Minney)

I took this picture on the afternoon after the stome in the center
of Vietnam in July 2002. When I went there ,I saw a girl who was
in the house which was damaged by the storm. The front yard of this
house was lost by water and its the frame only the left. Butclife
is still going
Juror's Review
The little seed that someone planted one day by the corner of the
shack has grown into a leafy vine that climbs a nearby tree. She's
been coming every day to water it and see how big it's grown. "Please,
hurry up and grow." She's been waiting for the day its flowers
finally bloom. We can tell all this from the posture and expression
of the little girl. The meaning of growth is the same in life for
both plants and animals. This little girl is experiencing the wonder
of life, even in the starkness of her everyday surroundings.(Sasaki
