Entry Information - Summary-

Please read regulations to make sure detailed information when you apply.

EARTH VISION - Tokyo Global Environmental Film Festival- has been held annually in Tokyo since 1992 to understand our environment better through moving images. Each year, nominated films from all over the world are screened in Tokyo during the festival.



Theme and Eligibility

Any theme related to global environmental issues is acceptable.

Entrants must live in Asia, Oceania or Polynesia. (Please read regulations for detailed information about entry.)

<Environmental Films for Children Category>
Entry films must have been created for children. Entrants from any country in any region are accepted. *Entrants may submit entries to both categories.
 

 

How to Apply

Submit the DVD along with an entry form (You can download it from our website and fill out the form) in a CD and its print-outs, two copies of the script with complete dialogue and narration of the film (in English or Japanese) and still pictures  of at least two different scenes from the entry film.  (Please read regulations for detailed information about entry)

Rules and Regulations of The 18th EARTHVISION


1.  Title
EARTH VISION -The 18th Tokyo Global Environmental Film Festival


2.  Purpose
Enhance understanding of the global environmental issues through excellent moving image, and provide more people with opportunities to take action to achieve harmonious coexistence with nature and sustainable development.

6.  Festival Concept
<Environmental Films Category>
Official entries, chosen by public invitation, from Asia, Oceania and Polynesia will be screened in Environmental Film.
<Environmental Films for Children Category>
Official entries, chosen by public invitation, from all over the world will be screened.


7.  Eligibility
Films which satisfy the following conditions are eligible for entry

(1) Filmmakers should reside in Asia, Oceania or Polynesia (however, any nationality is eligible).  Amateur films are also invited.  No limits on the year of film completion.

(2) Entries must be related to global environmental issues reflecting the purpose of EARTH VISION.

(3) All entries may not have previously been submitted to and/or awarded by EARTH VISION.  Multiple entries are invited; however, a separate entry form must be submitted for each entry.  Photocopies of an entry form can be made.

(4) When using copyrighted works such as music and moving image in a film, entrants must complete required licensing procedures before submitting the film.  If an award winner is later found not to obtain the copyright owner’ s permission, its award may be canceled.  The host assumes no responsibility for any problems.

<Environmental Films for Children Category>
(1)Entries must have been created for children on the theme of global environmental issues reflecting the purpose of EARTH VISION. ). Amateur films are also invited.

(2) No limits are placed on the location and nationality of filmmakers and on the year of film completion. Entries that have previously been submitted to and/or awarded by EARTH VISION are not accepted.  Multiple entries are invited: however, a separate entry form must be submitted for each entry. Photocopies of an entry form can be made.

(3) When using copyrighted works such as music and moving image in a film, entrants must complete required licensing procedures before submitting the film.  If an award winner is later found not to obtain the copyright owner’s permission, its award may be canceled.  The host assumes no responsibility for any problems.


8.  Application Procedures

(1) Entry Fee

(2) Entry Films
Entrants should submit the DVD along with an entry form (You can download the form from our website and fill out the form) in a CD, its print-outs and the followings:
a.  Two copies of the script with complete dialogue and narration of the film (in English and/or Japanese).
b.  Two still pictures of at least two different scenes from the entry film. (in CD)

(3) Shipping Costs
All shipping costs must be borne by the entrant.

(4) Address
Entry forms, DVDs and any other materials should be sent to the EARTH VISION Committee.

(5) Entry Deadline
Entry tapes and entry forms must arrive at the EARTH VISION Committee on or before Tuesday 15 September 2009.

(6) Right to Retain Entries
Entry DVDs and other submitted materials (listed above) will not be returned to the entrants but will be retained by the host.  Host guarantees that these will be used only for reviewing and promotional purposes.

(7) Responsibility
The host will not be responsible for any damage to or the loss of any entry materials prior to its arrival at the EARTH VISION Committee.


9. Method of Selection

<Environmental Films Category>
 (1) First Selection
The Secretariat Judging Committee will select films which will undergo selection in the Second Selection.

(2) Notification of the Results of the First Selection
Results of the First Selection will be notified to entrants on or before Sunday 31 December 2009

(3) Second Selection
From those selected by the Secretariat Judging Committee, EARTH VISION Grand Prize, Special Prize for Biodiversity and EARTH VISION awards-winning films will be chosen by the Second Selection Judging Committee.

(4) Notification to EARTH VISION Grand Prize, Special Prize for Biodiversity and EARTH VISION Awards-Winning Filmmakers
Results of EARTH VISION Grand Prize, Special Prize for Biodiversity and EARTH VISION awards-winning films will be reported to entrants on or before Sunday 31 January, 2010

(5) Screening of EARTH VISION Grand Prize, Special Prize for Biodiversity and EARTH VISION Awards-Winning Films
All the EARTH VISION Grand Prize, Special Prize for Biodiversity and EARTH VISION Awards-winning  films will be screened on Friday 5 to Sunday 7 March 2010.

<Environmental Films for Children Category>
(1) First Selection
The Secretariat Judging Committee will select films which will undergo selection in the Second Selection.

(2) Notification of the Results of the First Selection
Results of the First Selection will be notified to entrants on or before Sunday 31 December 2009

 (3) Second Selection
From those selected by the Secretariat Judging Committee, Children EARTH VISION Grand Prize and Children EARTH VISION awards-winning films will be chosen by the Second Selection Judging Committee.

(4) Notification to Children EARTH VISION Grand Prize and Children EARTH VISION Awards-Winning Filmmakers
Results of Children EARTH VISION Grand Prize and Children EARTH VISION awards will be reported to entrants on or before Sunday 31 January 2010

(5) Screening of Children EARTH VISION Grand Prize and Children EARTH VISION Awards-Winning Films
All the Children EARTH VISION Grand Prize and the Children EARTH VISION awards-winning Films will be screened for from Friday 5 to Sunday 7 March 2010.


10.  Films for Screening
(1) Requirements for Films
Films/tapes which have been selected for the festival must be the master tape or a new print taken from the original. Entrants must give their consent to the following:
a. Subtitles or voice-over may be added to films where deemed necessary or appropriate by the host.
b. The Host may edit any film to be screened by taking still pictures or film footage of three minutes or less for promotion purposes.
c. All films/tapes and related materials must be insured by the entrant against any damage or loss which may occur during shipment or in the course of the festival.

(2) Costs
The following costs must be borne by the entrant:
a. Cost of printing a film or duplication of a tape, and shipping.
b. In order to make Japanese and/or English versions of a film for the screening and judging of nominated films, the host will require entrants to provide clean pictures with M&E track for a video tape, or a new print for a film.  Shipping costs of these materials will be borne by the entrants as well. Custom clearance fees will be covered by the host.

(3) Return of Screened Entries
After screening, all films/tapes will be returned by Wednesday 30 June 2010.  Return shipping costs will be borne by the host.


11.  Jurors
Judging Committee will consist of jurors appointed by the host.


12. Awards
Outstanding films will receive the following prizes:

13.   "Best of EARTH VISION"
Upon conclusion of this festival and with the agreement of entrants, the EARTH VISION Committee may screen all submitted films as part of the "Best of EARTH VISION" program at various locations in Japan and other countries for environmental education.


14. Validity
The Japanese language version of this document takes precedence over all other versions. Entrants in this festival shall agree to abide by the conditions outlined in this document. The host may revise the conditions contained in this document when deemed necessary.
