Bringing awareness of global environmental issues through films

"EARTH VISION - The Tokyo Global Environmental Film Festival" has been held annually in Tokyo as a visual forum to examine our environment through moving images. Official entries are chosen by public invitation from Polynesia, Oceania, Asia, including Japan. Film entries are screened for judging. Accepting entries from both amateurs and professionals is an important characteristics of this film festival.


A place for broadening networks and exchanging ideas



Since its establishment in 1992, the film category has become a great forum for discussion between filmmakers and audiences alike. The festival invites nominated filmmakers each year to discuss their work. In 2002, Ecomove International was launched by five European international film festivals and EARTH VISION as the network of international environmental film festivals across the world. Ecomove International organizes and supports environmental media events of global scale. And every second year, Ecomove stages a festival of environmental film festivals where the world's best environmental films are shown and awarded.

We have compiled a program entitled "The Best of EARTH VISION." This is a list of the top films, including award-winning films, from past EARTH VISION festivals. EARTH VISION lends these films for screening to local governments, environmental groups, schools and other community organizations video library is available at The Global Environment Information Centre, operated by the UN University and Ministry of the Environment, in Aoyama, Tokyo. This library houses a wide variety of high quality, award-winning films and "The Best of EARTH VISION" selection. EARTH VISION accommodates visitors and gives screenings at this centre.

_ ___ EARTH VISION became be one of the members in Ecomove international which consists of six environmental film festival organizers in Europe and Asia, founded in May 2002 in Banska Bystrica, Slovakia.

EARTH VISION is operated by the EARTH VISION Organization, comprised of the Global Environmental Forum (an environmental NPO for scientific policy research and dissemination of information about environmental issues), NHK Joho Network Inc. (a company providing news-related services and contents), Kiyosato Educational Experimental Project (a foundation for promoting environmental education), Oak Group (an organization for promoting environmental education), Group Gendai Films Co., Ltd., (an independent production company of environmental films), Urban Communications, Inc. (a subsidiary of Tokyo Gas Co., Ltd. specialized in cultural events). EARTH VISION is also supported by many public institutions and private companies that have a high awareness of environmental issues.
